The 2011 Rookie Scouting Portfolio

Matt Waldman has just released his 2011 Rookie Scouting Portfolio, his annual definitive guide to dynasty rookie drafts.  Read on for more information from Matt about this year’s edition as well as how to purchase your copy.

We hold Matt’s opinion in the highest regard.  He is a person of the highest character and integrity and his football knowledge jumps off each page.  Not only does he want to share what he sees, he shows all of his work and teaches about the game of football and film study.  We are happy to help him spread the word about his labor of love, and we hope that you find it as useful in your dynasty leagues as we do.

You can follow Matt on Twitter at @MattWaldman

“In our business, we are able to access many different types of reference materials. The Rookie Scouting Portfolio stands above the rest for one simple fact: it is more comprehensive than anything else I have seen… I can’t recommend the RSP highly enough.”

The Rookie Scouting Portfolio

I am Matt Waldman, a staff writer at Footballguys and author of the long-running fantasy column The Weekly Gut Check.  Welcome to the Rookie Scouting Portfolio, the result of my depraved obsession with game film analysis of NFL prospects.

Whether you’re looking for a great cheat sheet on rookies, magazine-length draft primer on skill players, or you prefer a mountain of raw material to form your own opinion, the RSP is designed for anyone interested in NFL prospects QB, RB, WR, and TE.

My views of prospects are often different (and frequently more accurate) from the consensus. I believe this is a result of my detailed analysis based on extensive film study of each player without focusing on a player’s projected draft stock and the method I use to study them.

I believe the RSP is one of the most in-depth, well-conceived, draft resources specifically tailored around offensive skill players that you will find, because it’s based on what matters most: how a player performs on the field of play. At only $9.95, you get 859 pages of in-depth material online for the cost of a newsstand magazine. Order now.

2011 Rookie Draft Rankings 2.0

Rankings updated April 7, 2011 – Click here

Fantasy football players can breathe a momentary sigh of relief, the NFL and the players’ union have decided to take a timeout and extend the March 4th deadline one day.  While it doesn’t mean a deal is imminent (or another extension of the deadline), but dynasty league owners can still plan on building (or rebuilding) their teams’ this offseason.

With that news taking up much of the airwaves and internet blogs, there is another important event happening here at DynastyBlitz.com: Updated staff rookie draft rankings. Continue reading →

2011 NFLPA Game – Texas vs The Nation

The Texas vs The Nation game has a lot of history in its short five-year existence.  For those doubters that believe this is a so-called all-star game that needs to be discarded, really need a reality check.  This year’s NFC Championship Game could have been very different without Caleb Hanie and Johnny Knox, who both were discovered in part by this game.  Other NFL notables to get their chances amplified due to this game are Pierre Garcon and Bernard Scott.  This year’s game, while low scoring, introduced some of us to a new crop of lesser known players, especially some wide receivers.

Ponder-ing my thoughts about the 2011 Senior Bowl

Earlier today my counterpart Andy Miley shared his Senior Bowl thoughts.

I’ve always loved the Senior Bowl.  The Senior Bowl has been the  unofficial kick-off to the next fantasy season for as far back as I have done dynasty fantasy football.  As the NFL Network provides more access, it is easier for us arm-chair dynasty scouts to get a first good look at the next class of potential rookie draft selections. 2011 Senior Bowl thoughts

The granddaddy of the 2011 all-star college games is now in the books. Some college stars shined brightly, while other stars fell to the earth, a few stars had limited visibility, and some faint stars became brighter.

This writer especially enjoys the differences of opinion within the world of draft gurus.  Each set of eyes sees something a little bit different from everyone else.  There were plenty of players that made an impression at Mobile.

The stars that shined brightly: Continue reading →

RB Delone Carter impresses at East-West Shrine Game

Earlier today my counterpart Andy Miley shared his East-West Shrine Game thoughts and I thought it would be a good idea to do the same.

The East-West Shrine game is a great chance for some of the lesser-known senior draft-eligible prospects to catch a scout’s eye before the event marking the beginning of the NFL Draft process: the Senior Bowl.

I took the chance to quickly watch through the 86th edition of this classic all-star game to see if I could spot any potential fantasy football sleepers for your dynasty squad (Repeat, I am not a scout). Continue reading →
