The Rookie Blitz: Week 8 in Review

Posted on 04. Nov, 2009 by Brandon LaClair in Columns

Percy Harvin: The Vikings rookie wide receiver caught five balls for a season high 84 yards in Sunday’s win vs. the Packers.  Harvin is continually earning the trust of Brett Favre as the Vikings have the second best record in the NFC.  The Vikings are on a bye Week 9 so you’ll have to find a replacement for the production that Harvin provides on Sundays.

Jeremy Maclin: Philadelphia’s speedster caught four passes for 47 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown pass.  DeSean Jackson commands a consistent double team so Maclin gets opportunities in one-on-one coverage.  Maclin has been a lock for 4-6 receptions in four out of his last five games; consider Maclin a #3 receiving option this week as the Eagle’s take on Dallas and their questionable defense.

LeSean McCoy: McCoy rushed for 82 yards on 11 carries.  Donovan McNabb’s success throwing the ball enabled McCoy to run through the tackles with ease.  Brian Westbrook is expected to return Week 9, so McCoy returns to the bench and he should return to yours as well.

Shonn Greene: Greene came back to reality rushing eight times for 18, after a Week 7 clinic that rocked the Fantasy Football world.  We won’t call him a one-week wonder yet, but monitor his progression as you may use him as a flex option for Week 10’s encounter with Jacksonville.

Michael Crabtree: Minus a lost fumble, Crabtree had a strong outing in his 2nd game with the 49ers. He and Alex Smith are developing a nice chemistry together as they are looking to slice-n-dice Tennessee’s defense as the Niners are looking to rebound from a hard fought Week eight loss to Indianapolis. The Fantasy Football community is just waiting for Crabtree to break out with a huge game; consider Crabtree a strong #3 receiving option for this week.

Hakeem Nicks: The North Carolina standout caught four passes for 53 yards against Philadelphia.  Nicks went without a score for the first time in five games as the Eagle’s secondary was dominant in containing the rookie amongst the other receivers on the Giants squad.  While Nicks didn’t put up his usual numbers, he has made his presence known and should be a solid #3 option when the Giants take the field for their Week 9 showdown with San Diego.

Knowshon Moreno: RookieBlitz.com’s ROTY has been very unproductive the past two weeks as he has ran for a total of 83 yards.  It’s obvious the return of Correll Buckhalter has really altered Moreno’s production.  The disappointing run in Moreno’s rookie campaign won’t be getting any easier as Denver travels to Pittsburgh in an AFC clash.  Consider Moreno a low end #3 option against the #1 rushing defense in the league.
