The Rookie Blitz: Week 12 in Review

Kenny Britt: The Titan rookie excelled to a career high in receiving yards including the game-winning 10 yard touchdown reception in Sunday’s Week 12 win against the NFC West leading Cardinals.  Britt is emerging as a top receiver in the Titan’s offense, but in a run-first offense, you won’t Vince Young throw 43 times very often, so don’t overhype what Britt did Sunday.  Consider him a solid #3 receiving option for the Week 13 showdown with the Indianapolis Colts.

Percy Harvin: The versatility that Harvin shows on a weekly basis has left the fantasy football community with their heads spinning collectively.  The rookie’s best day as a pro came Sunday catching six balls for 101 yards and a touchdown, adding 45 yards rushing.  Harvin has averaged 79.3 yards receiving with three touchdowns over his last four games.   Harvin has performed well enough recently where you should be able to feel confident enough to put him as a solid #2 receiver for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

Knowshon Moreno: Denver’s elite rookie running back had 88 yards rushing on 19 carries in Thursday’s game against the Giants.   Moreno has regained his consistent form after a rough start to the second half of 2009.  He has eclipsed 80 yards for the third straight game and is back-on-track for Rookie of the Year honors.  Consider Moreno a strong #2 back for Sunday’s match against Kansas City who comes in sporting the 27th ranked rush defense in the NFL.

LeSean McCoy: McCoy had another solid game against the Redskins Sunday.  He rushed for 76 yards on 17 carries, but did not score in the game.  Philly’s rookie has been a staple of consistency since Brian Westbrook went down with a concussion.  The Eagles face-off with the Falcons Sunday and McCoy will be opposed by Atlanta’s 23rd ranked rush defense (121.3 YPG).  This being said, keep McCoy as a solid #2 rushing option.

Darrius Heyward-Bey: The #1 receiver taken in the 2009 draft scored his 1st NFL touchdown on Thanksgiving against Dallas.  Heyward-Bey has been a non-factor all year while not displaying the overwhelming speed that landed him the 7th slot in the draft.  This guy is only notable because of his 1st NFL touchdown; otherwise he is a fantasy outcast and not worth your time in any standard fantasy format.

Austin Collie: Collie has a nice game Sunday against the Texans hauling in four balls for 70 yards.  This was his most productive game since Week 5 against the Titans (8 rec, 97 yds, 2 TD), which is the opponent the Colts will be playing Week 13.  The Titans are as bad on pass defense (31st in NFL, 266.3 YPG) as they were Week 5 and Collie may be able to expose that again this week.  Collie may be worth a flier as a #2 receiver, otherwise, keep him as a high-end #3 for this game.

Michael Crabtree: The 49er’s future star receiver had another quality outing in Sunday’s matchup with Jacksonville bringing in four catches for 54 yards.  Crabtree has only scored once and has yet to reach a 100 yards receiving, but his on-field chemistry with Alex Smith is undeniable.  It’d be a good idea to keep him as a solid #2 receiver for the game against Seattle and their 25th ranked pass defense.

Matthew Stafford: After a magnificent performance against the lowly Browns, Stafford laid an egg against the Packers.  He went 20-for-43 for 203 yards with a TD and four interceptions.  While still a rookie; Stafford hasn’t developed a consistent offensive chemistry with his receivers as of yet.  The Lions travel to Cincinnati Week 13 to take on the Bengals.  The Bengals defense will be coming after Stafford, therefore, it wouldn’t be a good idea to get tricky and start Stafford.  A repeat performance of the Browns game doesn’t look like it will happen again this year, especially not this week.
