Jimmy Clausen to the Panthers

NCAA Football: Southern California at Notre Dame

One of the most talked about stories of the 2010 NFL Draft finally has a conclusion.

Jimmy Clausen was taken 48th overall by the Carolina Panthers after he was widely considered a first round lock.  There were many concerns for Clausen: Toe Injury, leadership abilities, maturity and measurables.

It is hard to argue against Clausen’s college production at Notre Dame that included a junior campaign with 3,722 passing yards, 68% completion percentage, 28 touchdown passes and only 4 interceptions.

Clausen still has the ability to become a solid starting quarterback in the NFL.  He could start in 2010 because of his extensive experience in Notre Dame’s pro-style offensive scheme.  Matt Moore is currently at the top of the depth chart for the Panthers and a training camp battle between Moore and Clausen is likely.

Clausen could not have landed in a better situation.  Carolina is a veteran team with a run-first philosophy and a steady defense that can compete for the NFC South title in 2010.

Watch the training camp battle between Clausen and Moore very closely.  The winner of that battle can be a viable fantasy backup quarterback in larger redraft leagues.  Clausen is a solid stash in dynasty leagues and can still be drafted in the second round of your rookie drafts.
